Georgena Small
Paediatric Pain Nurse Specialist, Complex Pain Service, Starship Child Health, Auckland, NZ

Georgena Small graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science in Nursing from Auckland University of Technology in 2001. She completed an Advanced Nursing Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science from the University of Auckland in 2017 with papers centred on youth health and research and is enrolled in a Master of Health Science.

She has worked in a range of adult and paediatric nursing environments requiring skills in pain management including adult palliative care and post-surgical care. More recently, Georgena has worked on the paediatric haematology and oncology ward where she developed a keen interest in complex pain management. She was then appointed to her current position of Pain Nurse Specialist with the Complex Pain Service in 2016. Clinical teaching to nurses, nursing students and junior medical staff on how to manage pain in children is a key part of her specialist nursing role. Teaching is an area of interest for Georgena and compliments her own commitment to professional development as she undertakes a Research Masters.
