Dr Kathryn Russell is a consultant clinical psychologist working in the Paediatric Consult Liaison team at Kidz First Children's Hospital and the National Burns Centre.
She holds a wide scope of interest for children and adolescents and their families in the wider hospital system and has specific interests in acute stress disorder, medical trauma, acute and procedural pain management. Her research focus has been to explore procedural pain in children. These interests and her passion for children having a painless experience in the health system has seen her work as an advisor to Heart Foundation on their patient information programme for pain management during rheumatic fever injections and contribute to the New Zealand immunisation manual section on pain management for injections. Kathryn is the past Chair of the New Zealand Pain in Childhood SIG and current New Zealand liaison for the ISPP Pain in Childhood SIG. She has been involved in organising and being on scientific committees for a number of meetings including the Pain in Childhood SIG Satellite Symposium for the New Zealand Pain Society Conference ASM in 2015, the Australian and New Zealand Burns Association Conference in 2016 and the half day meeting for the Pain in Children and Adolescent SIG at the Paediatric Society of New Zealand ASM in 2016. |
